I have 20 years of clinical experience with children, youth, adults, families and couples. I have worked extensively with individuals and families from diverse backgrounds, understanding that each of us has a unique biology, an individual experience in our family and live in a culturally diverse community.
Built on a strong foundation of psychodynamic theory, I use Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, brief therapy, and mindsight exercises in my work with teens and adults. Working with an understanding of how our neurobiology can be changed, each of us can increase awareness of our mental processes and create the changes that we want. Supported by self-reflection, and expressive arts I can help clients heal from past experiences and discover their essential self. I believe in a collaborative effort by client and therapist to create a unique process of change while developing a stronger sense of spirituality, self-esteem and developing strengths
Specializing in depression, anxiety, including OCD, bipolar disorder, and trauma within the context of family difficulties, parent-child problems, divorce, grief and loss, multicultural issues, and co-occurring medical problems, I am also experienced in addressing women’s issues, life transitions, the process of aging and support for caretakers.
With children I have been trained in play and art therapy and believe that by increasing parental skills in managing behaviors at home and school, parents and children experience an increased sense of attachment and connection.
